About aBL

What is aBL?

Antimicrobial blue light (aBL) operates within the visible spectrum, outside the ultraviolet range and within the 400 – 470nm spectrum and has been observed to kill diverse microorganisms, including bacteria, yeast and mould, as well as most viruses.

For blue light to disinfect effectively, it requires technology that enables delivery of high intensity blue light at a targeted, very narrow spectrum – which LED fixtures have enabled.

When was it discovered?

Disinfection with light has been researched and practised since the late 1800s. Multiple peer reviewed research papers have detailed the efficacy of aBL on pathogens such as staphylococcus, SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A as well as airborne bacteria.

Lindo invests in and partners with global health institutions and research laboratories to contribute to the ever-growing empirical evidence base for aBL and translates insights into practical equipment and healthcare products.

Why choose aBL tech?

Lindo sees aBL as a game changer in disinfection applications and leverages it for its proven power to safely neutralise bacteria and viruses in the air, water and on surfaces. With endless versatility and scalability, Lindo customises solutions that integrate aBL into LED fixtures to deliver smart, safe and fit-for-purpose disinfection systems.

Can it reduce HAIs?

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) represent a significant challenge in aged care facilities, adversely impacting resident outcomes. Seasonal HAIs including COVID-19, influenza, norovirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are a significant public health issue in Australia when compared with other health conditions.

Our lighting systems deliver continuous disinfection within facilities to eliminate human error and automate the disinfection process to keep both aged care staff and residents safe, therefore reducing HAIs and absenteeism rates simultaneously.

What other benefits are there?

The endless versatility of our automated disinfection systems improves the health and wellbeing of the environments where we live, work and heal in multiple ways. In addition to neutralising bacteria and viruses by up to 99.99% in the air, water and on surfaces, Lindo’s aBL solutions reduce resources, energy and chemical use by optimising the cleaning process. This also has a flow on effect to reducing rates of absenteeism in workplaces such as hospitals, aged care and childcare facilities.
